This is something that annoys me again and again coming from the US. A famous game show host believes its all a hoax then gets it and sees the light. A politician thinks homosexuality is some innately evil choice of an individual then their kid comes out gay and oh now they get it. Do people with no discernable empathy tend to just get too powerful positions more often? Are the folks that just can’t understand things unless they directly experience it?

Apparently having empathy for your fellow citizen’s plight and wanting to fix things so it works for everyone, isn’t the way things are done. We’ll use health care for all as an example. Rather than trying to ensure that no one loses their house because they got cancer, they’ll kick you back down because they didn’t get financial help when they had a kidney stone. So everyone is walking around blind instead of admitting that everyone could have seen an eye doctor. It’s absolutely baffling.
