There is a nice middle ground between not overworking and fucking around and regretting it later. I do my 40 hours and take as much time off as I can get. If I do extra hours I always take it in days off. I find it fascinating that so many people have been convinced that 40 hours a week with minor benefits is an acceptable amount of time to be spending working.

I think the keyword you’re changing there is “harder” for “more”. I’m not saying they’re mutually exclusive but I think the original comment is more in the spirit of making sure you take time for yourself and not being a slave to your job, rather than not giving a fuck and living a life of insecurity I’ve only ever heard people say they wish they’d have worked harder in school. I’ve never heard anyone say they wish they’d worked harder at any job.
