It’s hypocritical. It’s a convenient excuse for an outlet of hatred. The Bible says that a person should be put to death for planting crops of different types side by side and that a person wearing clothing made of two (or more) kinds of material should be burned alive. It’s not because of religion, it is only an outlet of hate. It is veiled on a cloak of “for religion” but ultimately it is simply for viscous and basic hatred.

Since the beginning of civilization, religion has been a substitute for the rule of law. You had two tools to make people comply with your laws: by force or because God said so. Since a lot of people aren’t cool with being forced to do things and that may backfire spectacularly, and the promise of an amazing afterlife if you behave is a great incentive, “because God said so” is very effective.
