I love Mads but this franchise is so goddamn dull I really don’t think even this casting would save it. Of all the awful things about Crimes of Evil Wizard Hitler, Depp wasn’t one of them. This changes nothing about my excitement about the story that it’s telling. The first movie is great and the second is worse but not awful IMO. I don’t think it’s that dull, it has a lot of potentials.

Great actor, but this whole situation has left a bad taste in my mouth. To be fair, I wasn’t particularly into the FB offshoot, but this mangles it even more. I really wish they’d done a darker film exploring Grindelwald and Dumbledore’s relationship, as well as the wizarding world’s involvement in WW2. I don’t think it was a coincidence that dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in 1945.
