It depends on your state exemptions to at-will employment laws. All 50 states are At-will employment, so you can be fired for no reason with no explanation. Some states put limitations in a place where employers have to establish “just cause” for firing someone. Also, many public sector employees, workers operating under a contract, and union workers are somewhat protected from at-will employment laws.
