The producers of the movies keep shooting down this idea, but James Bond / M / Q et cetera being code names for those specific roles would be the only way the series can continue to make any narrative sense going forward.I mean, what’s more likely: A) that agents in these positions are killed or retire every decade or so and a new upcoming agent takes the job, or that B) James Bond is a 115-year-old shapeshifter?

And yes, I know, suspension of disbelief and blah blah blah… but this trope is so ridiculous by now that it’s beyond suspension of disbelief. It’s especially egregious when putting this “these jobs change hands” explanation into the films would instantly fix it.
