I think most people aren’t trying to make America socialist. Just more democratic socialist like higher minimum wage, free healthcare, actual enforcement of monopoly laws. It’s just that the Right and the rich want to paint the opposition as basically USSR.

From my own experience it’s not just the right and rich who do this. I know plenty of people within my own circle and people that I have met at political events who blame capitalism but aren’t calling for socialism either. There just seems to be a disconnect in vocabulary that is then exploited.
