Not expensive at all, but still. From 12 years of living in China’s health system the impression I’ve always got is that you pay if the means exist in your bank account. If Y200 exists in your account then there’s no reason for the government to cover that cost for you. Social insurance will likely cover a portion of the cost for most, and those definitely without the means to pay will receive it free.

Yes like polio, tetanus, and any other vaccine covered. Vaccines in general are not expensive, especially where they are bought in large quantities by real public healthcare care governments. I don’t see the breaking news here. I think it’s more complex than that, but the dichotomy you gave is the simplified version presented to voters. I don’t think it’s very honest. That dichotomy ignores the mismanagement and nefarious direction of tax funds, and the laws bending over backward for large profit executives and presidents to contribute little, and the subsidization of certain industries/how that plays into the safety net.
