Have you ever looked into mountain bike tourism? The Walmart family and locals transformed Bentonville, Arkansas and it seems to bring in really strong tourism. More locally to you, Downieville has a really strong mountain bike tourism scene. It seems that the low cost of building some proper trails can have a decent payout that people are willing to pay for and travel to. I think I asked about writing some of the histories last time you did AMA, so how’s it going? What has it been like with the pandemic – I think you were pretty isolated due to that. Is it feeling more like a home or are you getting cabin fever? Do you feel more “in the time” and how has that impacted your plans for the town?

The drive has changed over time. When I started, I think I was looking for a cool hospitality project. Now being here so much and learning all the history, there is this overwhelming sense of responsibility. Of duty. That I HAVE to get this town to a place where more people can experience it and leave it for generations to come. Probably going a bit nuts Nearest Walmart is maybe 2 hours away? 2.5 maybe? I usually get supplies every 2 weeks or so in a town called “Lone Pine” which is just over an hour from the town. The store is small and the variety is limited but gets the job done
