Bro I just returned from work after working on a boring-ass Manufacturing batch record document and munching on a number 6 spicy Wendy’s burger that isn’t even spicy. The fries were salty as fuck too. Probably soaked in mountain goat’s urine. So, cut me some slack man. Pain is psychological distress associated with negative stimuli. Even the simplest single-cell organisms react to negative stimuli – that’s often one of the definitions used for life. But we don’t generally consider bacteria to be “in pain” when they avoid negative stimuli.
For other types of outpatient procedures, from lumbar epidurals for pain management to colonoscopies, only sedation (or amnesiacs) are given. This allows you to be minimally conscious for the procedure (and respond to verbal instructions), but you won’t remember much of what happened. You’ll feel discomfort at the time – but you won’t remember it later.
