In terms of specific experience, it’s amazing how much the two cities feel the same, but Montreal (and from what I’ve seen Canada in general) has way way way more small businesses. And in residential areas, there are tons of childcare services (subsidized by the government is my understanding). Also, the social welfare net is so much better, so while there is a substantial homeless population here, poverty for the employed looks a lot better here then it does in Pittsburgh. But that’s not data-driven, that’s just what I’m seeing.

Yeah, I think there are several highly developed countries easier to get into than Canada. It’s the first country people from the US think of to escape to for obvious reasons, but many people may have better luck getting into Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, and the Czech Republic. The UK used to be comparatively easy but after years of the right party and catering to their anti-immigrant crowd, they have made it much tougher for people from non-EU countries (and soon EU too possibly), including US citizens, to get in there. Australia and NZ, not sure.
