As an educator with asthma and other health issues, that mentality possibly leading to my own illness and possible death scares me a lot right now. America is totally messed up in this regard. The parent(s) would get fired for a no-show at work and potentially not be able to make payments on their car. Then the other parent loses his/her job because they can’t get to work on time using the poor mass transit system the US has. Next, the family gets evicted for not paying rent or their home goes into foreclosure and they become homeless.

We can all agree that parents that have their children go to school when sick or the parents themselves working while they are infectious are not in any way doing the ‘collectively correct’ thing (as in good for the American public). However, this uniquely American situation makes it extremely hard for us, as US citizens, to make the decision between definitively destroying our own lives versus potentially hurting other’s lives.
