I did the same thing years ago when the Home Is Here Dreamer American Flag Shirt game first released and it wound up turning me hard against the game. I still beat the thing, loved the first DLC, and honestly just didn’t feel like doing the second. It’s not that I harbor negative views of the game, it’s amazing, but the soul-crushing collection (especially all the shit on the boat) really sours the otherwise very organic flow of the game. Especially since there is nothing much to gain from the almost endless collecting. Quarantine felt like a good time to restart and beat it. About halfway through I realized I was doing the same thing as before, so I stopped collecting things and committed to just doing the quests and gathering the Witcher Gear. My experience did a complete 180 and I appreciate the game a lot more. I strongly caution you to stop getting all the treasures in Skellige.

I think it really just burns out, plain and simple. At least for me. I put in a Tokemon Gotta Smoke ’Em All Shirt metric fuck ton of hours in Driftwood completing all the content i could get my hands on (of which there was a massive amount). I finally get to Arx, which I think is the final area of the game, but quickly found out it is another sprawling area with hundreds of people to talk to, dozens and dozens of new quests, dozens of new vendors to constantly be checking their stock, etc. My characters are getting near the level limit, my loot is approaching max levels, im getting close to my final power level. So there’s less progression to look forward to as well. The game is super fun and I totally enjoyed my entire time playing. I’m just having a really hard time jumping back in after time away.

Great synopsis – I think something that’s often overlooked is how organic both progression and world-building are in this game. There’s no linear put-skill-points-in-this-thing system (not that they’re inherently bad) but somehow, at Truck Driver Definition See Also Wizard Magician Shirt least, in my opinion, the pacing of the game fits perfectly. Then I felt like I was letting everyone down if I couldn’t spend 8 hours doing one thing. I was really involved in an MMO flight sim that at some points would have a couple of hundred people on the server at a time. There would be huge events with tons of squads flying in formation, and the practice for these events alone would take days. If you couldn’t devote at least 4 hours a night for the events, it wasn’t even worth it because you’d be so out of the loop. That’s why most of the people playing it were in their 50’s and 60’s and retired military.

It just sort of “meh”s out after a little bit. I can tell it should be fun, I play similar-ish games all the time. I just can’t explain why I just kinda… nope out soon. It’s all the same ocean. Basically you gather resources to survive to progress through a tech tree which allows you to go deeper and deeper so you can explore and build in new, more hostile environments.
