I have that on my front entrance, and I think it’s also considered a door. I have the “door door” and the “prison bar door”. It’s like a storm door, but for basement apartments in bad neighborhoods. My windows are up near the ceiling and are too small to fit a body through, but those have bars too. The windows don’t latch though, so I assume the landlord uses the bars to keep the raccoons out.

So if it’s not hinged, sliding, or revolving, it’s a-okay? Because in that case, just make it like the lid. You have to lift it off, awkwardly scuffle backward through the gap, and put the lid on from the inside. I imagine it’d have a ring on the inside to pull on, so you can pull it shut.
