I just had to Karen my way into getting a co-worker sent home. She just came back from Mexico last week where she spent the entire time very sick with many coronavirus symptoms. When she got back here the doctor wouldn’t see her or test her because she didn’t have a fever and her cough is wet, not dry. But we exchanged text messages two days before she came back that she told me was having body aches but didn’t have a thermometer. She came in today with a surgical mask on but sounded hoarse as shit with a really bad cough. So naturally, I asked my boss if I can work from home and whether I should really feel comfortable in a room for 8 hours with someone hacking up a lung who just got back from travel.

He contacted HR and I gave her a heads up that she might get sent home and I wasn’t trying to get her in trouble, which resulted in a long heated exchange where she insisted that she didn’t have coronavirus and that whatever she had wasn’t contagious. I felt like I was in a zombie movie with someone who got bit and was trying to fight their way out of getting shot. In the end, they let her work from home and she finally admitted that if she were in my shoes she would feel the same way and I did her a favor by saying something since she can still get a paycheck. Meanwhile, I still can’t work from home, my company is “working a developing a plan” for those who are able to work remotely. We are a manufacturer of healthcare devices!!! I understand the factory workers cannot work from home but my job is data entry.
